Tiffany charges for the box. StudsDirect charges for the diamond. Here's exactly what you get — and what you pay — at both.
Tiffany & Co. is one of the most recognized luxury brands in the world. That recognition comes with a price — not for the diamond, but for the brand. When you buy from Tiffany, you're paying for:
The gemological reality: A 1ct VVS1 Excellent cut lab-grown diamond is chemically, optically, and physically identical to a 1ct VVS1 Excellent cut mined diamond. The IGI report reads the same. The sparkle is the same. The price is not.

As of 2026, Tiffany & Co. does not sell lab-grown diamonds. Tiffany has publicly stated it will not carry lab-grown stones, citing a commitment to natural diamonds. All Tiffany diamonds are mined — which is part of why the prices are so much higher.
StudsDirect carries VVS1/VVS2 clarity, Excellent cut, IGI-certified stones in solid gold. Tiffany's entry diamonds are typically VS1/VS2 — a lower clarity grade than StudsDirect's minimum. The diamond chemistry is identical (both are pure carbon crystal). StudsDirect's grading floor is actually stricter.
The blue box carries brand signal value — it's recognizable globally and communicates luxury intent to the recipient. That signal is worth something for gift-giving contexts. But the gemological value of the diamond inside is unchanged regardless of the box. Whether the brand premium is worth $8,000–$20,000 extra is a question only you can answer.
Lab-grown diamonds have seen price compression since 2022 as production scaled. Natural diamonds also lose significant value after retail purchase — neither is a good investment. If resale value is a primary concern, neither Tiffany nor StudsDirect is the right vehicle. If you're buying for beauty and wearability, the gemological quality is what matters — and VVS+ IGI certified lab-grown is hard to beat at any price point.
